The Wyrir

The wyrir are one of the native species of Suiran. Family oriented and docile, the wyrir are natural gentle giants. While capable of summoning flame, they are more likely to bring warmth than to burn.
Biology
The wyrir are large, stocky, and strong. They have relatively small heads with uniquely flat faces and a long, curved horn on their foreheads. Their large, rounded ears are highly sensitive to sound, although they have a relatively weak sense of smell. They boast massive, fluffy manes and short tails to match. Their muscular legs are incredibly powerful and can fell a tree with a single kick. Their cloven hooves allow them impressive traction on steep or rocky surfaces.
Abilities
Pyrokinesis
The wyrir are capable of instinctively summoning and controlling fire. Unlike normal spellcasting, a wyrir will be able to summon their fire, at least to some extent, no matter how much magic they have. Their flames naturally spawn from their mane and tail but can extend to the rest of their bodies if willed. They are immune to fire and smoke inhalation but are still affected by natural heat.
Ecology and Behavior
Reproduction and Life Cycle
Wyrir have holder-giver reproduction with holders giving birth to live young. Holders are pregnant for nine months and will typically only give birth to a single calf.
Social Structure
Diet
Wyrir are herbivorous and consume many different types of vegetation. The majority of their diet is made up by forbs, tree shoots, and most notably, grains. The wyrir are strongly focused on agriculture and are reliant on many different types of grains and vegetables. Unique to Suiran, the wyrir have cultured a vast array of various pyrophyte plants which rely on fire for germination and regrowth.
Baking is very popular among wyrir and most wyrir are able to bake a vast array of breads, cakes, and pastries.
Hybrids
Due to their unique and powerful magic, successful wyrir hybridization is extremely rare. High rates of miscarriage, stillbirth, and neonatal mortality have made it so that only the luckiest of wyrir hybrids survive infancy. Even for those that do survive, things don't get much easier. Most hybrids have poor control over their fire. The luckiest are incapable of creating fire, but most are forced to deal with immense fire that their bodies are simply unable to handle. The few wyrir hybrids that do reach maturity are utterly sterile.
