The Wyrir
The wyrir are one of the native species of Suiran. Family oriented and docile, the wyrir are natural gentle giants. While capable of summoning flame, they are more likely to bring warmth than to burn.
Biology
The wyrir are a large, stocky species. They boast massive, luxurious manes with a short, fluffy tail to match. Their heads are relatively small compared to the rest of their body and their faces are uniquely flat. Their ears are large and rounded. They possess a long, curved horn which adorns their foreheads. Their hooves are cloven and their legs are rather muscular.
Abilities
Pyrokinesis
The wyrir are instinctively able to summon and manipulate fire. Flames will naturally spawn from their mane and tail but can extend to the rest of the body. They are immune to fire along with smoke. They are resistant to high temperatures (especially heat spawned from magic), but are not completely immune to it.
Ecology and Behavior
Reproduction and Life Cycle
Wyrir possess a holder-giver reproduction system, with holders becoming pregnant and giving birth to live young. One calf per pregnancy is typical.
Social Structure
Diet
Wyrir are herbivorous and consume many different types of vegetation. The majority of their diet is made up by forbs, tree shoots, and most notably, grains. The wyrir are strongly focused on agriculture and are reliant on many different types of grains and vegetables. Wyrir love bread and are claimed to have invented it.
Hybrids
Successful wyrir hybridization is extremely rare. High rates of miscarriage, stillbirth, and even neonatal mortality has made it so that only the luckiest of wyrir hybrids are able to make it to their first birthday. Those that do survive face poor control of their pyrokinesis, capable of producing flames that their body is simply unable to handle. The few wyrir that reach maturity are utterly infertile.
